In the English dub of Attack on Titan Season 3 Episode 8, we finally get our first look at the returning character of Commander Erwin Smith. Smith is back in action and looking to make amends with his former squad. He’s got a lot of catching up to do.
The episode begins with Eren and the others being taken to an unknown location. It looks like they’re about to be executed, but then things start to change. Smith arrives and introduces himself – he’s been tracking Eren and the others all this time. He seems eager to make things right, but it’s not clear yet what the dangers facing them are.
After some initial questions, it’s clear that Erwin is still very angry about what happened between him and Levi – he doesn’t trust anyone anymore. The soldiers seem to have similar thoughts, as we see them fighting off Titans hand-to-hand with nothing but their food rations.
While things are going good for the soldiers, there’s still a lot of danger lurking around every corner. It looks like this might be just the beginning for them…
